Update from Haiti & Apologies from the UK

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

I am happy to report that the Dolls have not only arrived in Haiti but have finally been released by customs. I will be passing on any further information I recive ASAP!

Unfortunately my plans for a New Dolly Donations Drive might be delayed, as I am currently stuck in the UK with limited internet access under a cloud of volcanic ash!

Mother’s providing for their Children.

I have granted permission to Rita, to teach a small group of Haitian women how to make dolls using my Dolly Donations free doll pattern, so that they might sell/barter them to help provide for their children in a very poverty stricken neighbourhood.

Rita left for Haiti yesterday and will be working with local women over the next few weeks. She will be updating us on their progress when she returns.

Dolls for Burmese Refugee Children.

Joy is using my Dolly Donations free pattern to make 30 dolls to send to Burmese orphan refugees in Thailand!

Her cousin and his wife run a charity supporting a very small orphanage in Thailand: www.thecharisproject.com. When she sent money at Christmas for shoes & beds for the children, her four year old asked, "What about toys?" ……. And when she asked her cousin's wife, her answer was, "Well, they sometimes toss around the plucked pigeons before cooking them for dinner."

So it is Joy’s mission, along with her sewing circle, to make 30 dolls for the children! How fabulous! We shall look forward to seeing some photos! Have fun sewing the dollies!!!
