Joyce (USA) has made 9 lovely dollies for one of the ladies in her quilting group who shall be will be leaving for Haiti on February 4th.

How exciting and how adorable they are, I am sure they will all be well loved!

"What fun I have had sewing these! They are taking sewing machines that have been converted to hand cranks because there isn't any reliable electricity and teaching the ladies there how sew to help them be more self reliant."

What a brilliant idea! Please send your friend our love and wish her a very safe journey!

28 dollies to Solace Women's Aid and The Cardinal Hume Center

I hope everyone had a very Happy New Year! And what a way to start it off! The wonderful Karen made 28 dollies to donate. She sent them off to Solace Women's Aid and The Cardinal Hume Center.

"I have had a wonderful response from both charities but mostly from Solace. They even asked that I make more, so that each of there 16 refuges could have one and be used during therapy sessions for children who have experienced domestic violence. They are going to name them and send me photos at a later date. It is so rewarding to know that they will be used in such a beneficial way."

It's absolutely wonderful news Karen! Thank you so much for all your hard dolly making work! I can't get over how much beautiful detail you put into each one. The appliques on their tummies are simply adorable!

Operation Christmas Child Doll Drive Ends Tomorrow!

Operation Christmas Child Doll Drive Ends Tomorrow so please express ship any of your dollies in ASAP!!!!

The wonderful Debra who organized this drive made 17 beautiful dollies herself and even came up with a clever machine embroidery face too that fits perfectly on to my dolly pattern! Hooray!

Thank you to everyone who took part in this drive! This is the last drive for the year but you can be sure it will make such a wonderful impact!

If you have any doll drives planned for next year please let me know in January and we can start sewing and collecting dollies all over again!

Debra and I will be in contact and hopefully I'll get a final count of all the lovely dollies everyone has sent it soon :)

100 Dolls for Children in Honduras

Congratulations to Jane (USA) who went to town making 100 dolls for her friends Rotary Club to take to Honduras in January. These little cuties will be traveling along with a team of doctors and dentists who go out there once a year to treat children and adults and will be handed out to less fortunate children. How fantastic!

28 Lovely Dollies sent in to Operation Christmas Child

The wonderful woman of 'Dollies Making A Difference' (USA) sent in 13 lovely dress up dollies to the Operation Christmas Child in California. And when they found out that a neighboring church/school Calvary Christian School in Pacific Palisades had Operation CC as one of their
outreach programs for December, they got back to their sewing machines and made an additional 25 dollies to send in their boxes!

How fantastic!! A big Thank You to Cindy for sending me the photo! I love them, their smiling faces are just too cute!

Dolls for Haiti: Teaching Teens to Sew

I received a wonderful e-mail from Dorothy (USA) who came up with a fabulous plan to teach teenagers how to sew for a good cause ….. a very good cause!

“A group of ladies got together today and we made dollies for the Haitian Orphanage our church supports AND taught 3 early teens how to sew! What a blessing your inspiration has been to so many!”

You can see from the photos how much fun everyone is having!

The face was rather intimidating until I watched your painting videos. They were extremely helpful, and I'm delighted with my first face.

I am so excited to share with you all that the wonderful Debra Huewe has set up an Operation Christmas Child Dolly Donation Doll Drive!

This drive is to benefit needy children who receive shoeboxes from Operation Christmas Child. It's such a beautiful charity that brings so much love to kiddie-winks all around the world.

Each doll that is received will be placed in a shoebox gift, lovingly wrapped up and sent to a needy child in one of more than 80 countries.

My Big Dolly Charity on-line auction by The Sewing Sisterhood

Martha has been a very busy young lady! Along with all her friends in the Sewing Sisterhood (AU) she has been traveling around and seeing so much!

She’s very excited as all of her proceeds from her on-line auction and her assorted goodies in early December will be donated to Make-A-Wish® Australia! Which helps support children with life-threatening medical conditions and brings happiness to the child and their family by granting wishes.

Plus she got to go to a quilt fair ........

meet some pilots .........

....... and have a few more cuddles along the way ….

......... And let’s not forget the beach! What a lucky Dolly!

Dolls for Indonesia Campaign: 306 Dolls for the children.

Thanks Casey (NY, USA) for letting me know about The Dolls for Indonesia Campaign.
Friends Peace Teams to Indonesia began after the 2004 tsunami devastated Aceh. Nadine Hoover, travels to Indonesia to help tsunami and war survivors in Aceh and North Sumatra and she set up this wonderful Doll Drive for the children.

“Play structured to support the development of young children greatly supports the development of parents and teachers as well when they engage in the play themselves. Play also reminds us of the fundamental authority of life itself—being alive.” Nadine Hoover.

The Dolls for Indonesia Campaign, using my free Dolly Donations Doll pattern and if you look closely there are few of my Easy Girl Dolls in there too ..... which I’m excited to see :) ...... set out with a goal to collect 200 dolls. Everyone in the community (and neighboring areas) got to sewing, from Girl Scouts, to Grandma’s. And talk about a success, well they not only got their much needed 200 dollies for the children, but their grand total was 306!

How fantastic!

The dolls traveled over to Indonesia in 4 suitcases and are happily living out their days playing with children in schools across the country.

Congratulations to all who took part in this doll drive! I only wish I had heard about it sooner so I could have helped spread the word!

Dolls for Operation Christmas Child

Genece has been hard at work making Dolly Donation dolls to give for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief and evangelism organization.

She sent me this lovely photo of some of her dollies and explained a bit about the organization!

“Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disaster, disease and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Operation Christmas Child was founded in Wales in 1990 by Dave Cooke. Samaritan’s Purse adopted the project in 1993. Since then, the project has delivered millions of gift-filled shoe boxes to needy children in more than 130 countries.”

The lovely Aussie ladies of The Sewing Sisterhood have come up with a wonderful idea, a “Scrappy Softie” made from donated pieces of fabric. Once the softie is finished it will be sent on a trip around Australia to raise money for charity.

My Ribbon Tag Owls for Children in The Emergency Rooms (usa)

Cynde (USA) who is a member of the Hoag Hospital auxiliary in Newport Beach CA has been busy making my Ribbon Tag Owls.

Aren’t they cute!!! And what makes these little guys twice as lovely is that Cynde is making them to give to each of the children that enter the Hoag Hospital Emergency Room!!

What a fantastic idea Cynde! Something sweet and cuddly to put a smile on a kiddie winks face!

Donated Dolls for Abused Children in Oregon and for Victims of the Joplin Tornado.

I love to hear your stories and find out where your donating dollies go, so when Philla of Douglas County, Oregon USA contacted me to tell me about the wonderful work she has been doing for the children in her comunity I was overjoyed.

After finding Dolly Donations, Philla and her ‘sewing buddy’ found a group in her county that takes in the abused children.

“The police bring them to the house and medical teams & psychiatrist check them and they stay until the courts decide where they should go. We decided to make children quilts, back packs( filled with activity books, crayons, toothbrush & paste, small game) and your dolls for them. The Lieutenant from the police force said he would like a couple in all cars so when a stop is made and parents arrested the children in the car could be comforted.”

Handmade Quilts, Dolls and Backpacks!

So far they have donated an amazing total of 35 quilts, 86 dolls, and 30 backpacks. Now that’s a lot of sewing and a lot of love!

But it doesn’t stop there ………….

When one of the ladies in her quilt group son’s family were hit by the tornado in Joplin they decided to send a king size quilt, 12 children quilts and 25 dolls to Joplin.

Here is one of the many e-mails she received.:

"I must tell you those little dolls were such a big hit with everyone. …..

….. Jennifer told us that her little girl was upset cuz she had no dolly's or stuff animals. Those ladies at the drop off center said the same thing, that their little girls have no dolls to play with. They couldn't wait to get home and give them to their daughters. Just wished you ladies could of hear how happy they all were with the dolls and quilts and the number of THANK YOU's. You ladies should of gotten the hugs not me, however I did enjoy the tears down my face this time."

134 Dolls for Orphans in Haiti

The amazing and wonderful Jen (you must remember her from all her fabulous donations in the past) went off to Haiti with this amazing gift in their suitcases! 134 dolls for all of the children housed in the Maison Des Enfants De Dieu (translates into House of God's Children) orphanage where her adoptive son is currently being cared for. She also has a few extra to take around to the local hospital and a school and other orphanage in Cite Soleil.

Jen made all of these dollies herself!

Active Doll Drive: Help the Ethiopian Children of Domestic Violence in Israel

Domestic Violence is terrible wherever in the world it occurs. It’s often hushed up and victims become trapped in the situation out of fear.

There is a Domestic Violence Shelter in Tel Aviv, Israel that has requested some black dolls to help comfort the Ethiopian children of domestic violence housed there.

Rev Cheryl Wallace who is the founder of the non-profit charity ‘Trust His Heart’ will be traveling there in November and is desperate for help in collecting the dolls as she herself does not sew.

The shelter has not asked for money, just these dolls, so when she contacted me I knew we could help!

“(The mothers and children) could be put in grave danger by revealing the DV shelters I will be working with in Israel” Rev Cheryl Wallace said. So unfortunately that means we will not be seeing photos of the doll distribution. However please know that they are greatly appreciated!

Goal:

50 – 100 Black/Brown skin toned dolls.

The dolls can be Knit, Crochet or Sewn.

The Doll Drive is: Completed

Handmade Book For Haiti Orphans Drive

Carrie (USA) has teamed up with The Abundant Ground to make beautiful handmade books titled “Our Hopes, Our Dreams, Our Future in Haiti.” for the children in their Croix des Bouquets orphanage in Haiti. The book is delightful and totally illustrated by the very talented Carrie and then sewn together by her friend.

“The books (illustrations and text) for Haiti are complete and ready for print! We already had one sewing group meet last week to assemble books! The project is going along great.” Carrie K

Their goal is to print and assemble 50 books for the children

of the Croix des Bouquets orphanage in Haiti.

So far they have made 19 books.......

She’s looking for people to help.

Wow, where does the time go?! It's been almost 4 weeks since my son was born! I thought you'd like to see the little chap in all his glory! Of course my son’s first softie had to be one of my Ribbon Tag Owlets. He loves it so much that it made me think of all the little babies out there that don’t have toys to play with. Something soft and colorful to hold, or jingly to rattle.

Haiti Doll Distribution – Renew Hope Haiti Spring Dolly Donation Drive

Congratulations to all who took part and to the wonderful people at Renew Hope Haiti for all their hard work in making this possible.

The Renew Hope Haiti Spring Dolly Donation Drive ended up with 459 dolls and meant they could be distributed to two separate schools, The Spirit of Truth Schools in Guibert Haiti and Marotiere Haiti.

“The children were so happy when they received their dolls!

One of the best stories was from Marotiere. We had distributed dolls in the morning at this school and spent the rest of the day and early evening painting the school and church.

When we were heading home at the end of the day and about a mile from the school

- we saw children at the side of the road jumping and waving at us.

It wasn’t until we were closer that we realized they were waving their dolls and shouting "Merci" (Thank you). They must have been playing with their dolls all day.

It was so heart-warming and their was not a dry eye in the car.

We want to thank Dolly Donations and all the volunteers who took time to sew for these children....we are truly grateful"

Linda (USA) made these 10 lovely dolls for the children in Haiti. The fabric is so cute!

And here is Cindy's (AU) cute little softie for Japan!! I just love the colors she used, he'd be perfect for a little boy or girl!

And here's a darling little Lamb by Bec (AU). She's already been sent off to Japan on a mission to bring softie cuddles and love to a little one who has lost everything!

Meet my cute Kawaii Kitty Cat and her lovely Leopard boyfriend! They’ve been hanging out in my sewing room whilst I got my baby bumpy checked on Monday. All’s well, but after a weekend filled with stabbing pains we were beginning to wonder .... could he really come a month early ….. Nope, it turns out he’s sitting on a ligament in my leg! Ouch! Ouch, OUCH!!!

So these two very patient felines have been waiting for their big ‘Hello Kitty’ party!

This little Miss had her whiskers done especially for the occasion,

and this chap, well his tails all prim and proper!

Like most of the animals they know, they love to dress up too ….

Japanese Earth Quake and Tsunami Doll and Softie Donation Drive USA

The wonderful Brooke of Curious Lottie's Fancy Crafts has set up a Dolly Donations Doll Drive to help the children of Japan devastated by the Earth Quake and Tsunami.
Curious Lottie's Fancy Crafts, LLC , will be partnering with Icebox Knitting, LLC to help send the dolls from Colorado to their contact in Japan.

What can you do? Donate a handmade softie or doll for donation to a child in Japan.

How? Stitch one, knit or crochet one with love!! All donated toys will be sent via the US to a contact in Japan for distribution.

Dolls for Haiti: Making your own Doll Drives!

Cindy (USA) and the other wonderful ladies in her sewing group got together and made these lovely dollies to send over to Haiti. They found an organization in Connecticut who would distribute them to orphanages they work with. All her hard work paid off as they are just adorable!

Just like me Cindy uses her dining room table for all her dolly sewing, hooray I’m not alone!

"Right now we are making dollies and turning them out at a pace where we need to find more venues to send them off to!!! We don't want to stop, but then my husband also occasionally asks me "Don't we have a dining room in this house somewhere???" We've found that we love getting together and sewing and talking and thus if we are going to be making these dollies, we need to work just as hard at finding places to donate them too.”

Congratulations Cindy and the other ladies in your group! You have done an amazing job!

It’s my daughter’s 2nd birthday this week, hooray :) and I wanted to make her an extra special dolly!

A set of 3 Russian Nesting Dolls to be exact,

but how was I going to solve the problem of getting the dollies to ‘nest’ ……

and as I was giving my little one a big cuddle I suddenly thought,

pop them safe in their mommy’s arms!!!

When I was pregnant with my little girl, we didn’t find out if she was a girl, it was a big surprise. We were given so many froggie designs for my baby shower, I referred to her as my little froggie for months before she was born! But could we find a cute frog toy, nope …. So this has been on my list!

A Doll A Day for Haiti Children in Need.

I just found Carlene's (USA) blog with all her lovely dolls in it. For 8 days she challenged herself to make a dolly a day for a child in Haiti, and she did it! What a lovely way to motivate herself, and a fantastic gift to give!

"The whole gang! These dollies were so much fun to make knowing they were going to brighten a child's life. This by far was one of my favorite ways of paying it forward, I will definitely be looking for more sewing charities." Carlene.

Doll Drive For The Children of Japan

My heart goes out to the people of Japan and I am sure you all feel the same. I have been seeing the photos of the children as all of you have and hope above all hopes that an agency out there will be helping them.
After a little research I came across the Save The Children UK.

“Recent reports show several villages now under water with at least one city completely destroyed. Due to the fears of an explosion near the nuclear plant, 215,000 people are reported to have been evacuated and to have spent the night without electricity and water.”

How they will help.

"Our response will focus on helping provide children with psychosocial care, such as setting up areas where children can play safely, to help return some sense of normality to their lives as soon as possible."

Stephen McDonald, Save the Children's team leader in Japan said, "Our first priority in Japan is to ensure that the most vulnerable children receive protection and care. It's very important for the affected children to return to normal life as soon as possible."

I have had many e-mails asking if I will be setting up a Dolly Donations Drive. As mentioned in an earlier post I am not currently setting up doll drives myself.

Update on Our Active Haiti Doll Drive and Photos!

The Renew Hope Haiti Active Dolly Donations Drive for children in need in Haiti has a new end date: April 1st. So please have your dolls shipped off to them by this date!!!

Lisa Paul kindly sent me some lovely photos.

The Renew Hope for Haiti's last doll drive was such a success with over 120 dolly donation's dolls making their way into the hands of the children belonging to the Spirit of Truth Orphanage in Ferrier Haiti and to a remote area of Fonds Parisien Haiti (above photo) near the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic where the children have nothing to call their own.

Dress Up Doll, Doll Clothes and Shoes Finished at Last!

After weeks of testing patterns she’s finally done! Meet Dress up dolly! She loves the windy weather, but always stays true to her European fashion roots!

Dress Up Dolly comes with sewn in high socks and pretty underwear, making her super safe for small children. She has a hat, scarf, strapless top and skirt pattern which you can easily mix and match to make as many little outfits as you wish.

And I just finished her shoe patterns last night! Hooray!!

Orphaned Children with Aids in Africa get some Dollies.

Lynn (Ontario, Canada) wanted to start the New Year by giving something back. An avid knitter she found a wonderful family run organization Knit-a-square or KAScare which asks for you to knit or crochet a square to make blankets out of for orphaned children with aids in South Africa.

“It is estimated that there are 500 new orphans a DAY in S.Africa, can you imagine?”

So to send along with her package of squares, hats and scarves she made two dollies for two lucky children to snuggle up next to in the cold nights.

‘These children really need something to cuddle and maybe they can even talk to them and tell their troubles to them.’

As you all know by now, number two will be with us soon. So I decided to be a bit more practical in my product review choices this time, and review the HOMEDICS - Sound Spa Portable and the Chicco - Caddy Red Hook-On High Chair.

We were lucky enough to try out my sisters-in-laws Chicco Hook-On High Chair and couldn’t get over how much of a space saver it was. So we put that on the 'must get' list for no.2. As you can see my little girl loves it!! She of course will be in a booster seat by the time the little man needs it, but it will be fabulous to have all 4 of us around the table at once. It’s sturdy, washable and can fold up flat for traveling. It also has a 3-point harness for the wiggly ones in the family with a weight limit of up to 37lb (6 – 36 months).

We have had the HOMEDICS - Sound Spa since day one in the nursery. The waterfall setting or rain setting are the best in my book. Baby will be asleep before you know it … and possibly Mummy and Daddy too! Our little girl still loves hers, and uses it for her naps to drown out our 3 little doggies and at night, so we knew we needed another one. It has a timer, 10, 15, 20 or all night, and can be plugged into the wall or battery operated. I know our little chap will love his as much as his sister!

I am so glad i was able to find them at CSN stores, but really i shouldn't be surprised, they seem to have everything!

195 Dolls Hand Delivered to Haitian Children in the Dominican Republic

Terry (Georgia, USA) and 3 of her lovely friends, Cherry, Betty, and Linda gave out 195 Dolls they made to children who live in Batey 7 near Barahona on their mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

“A batey is a company town where sugar workers and their families, mostly Haitians, live. They are poor, and lack both education and the benefits of citizenship. (We) had so much fun making the dolls and giving them to these children. Thank you so very much for sharing your pattern and allowing us to share the dollys with these precious children.”

Thank you so much to Terry and her fabulous friends for the wonderful work they are doing and for sharing these amazing photos with us all!

Thank you to everyone who is willing to share their love and sewing skills with a little one in need.

You only have to look at these childrens faces to know that you ARE making a difference in their lives.

65 Dolls Headed for Haiti making it a very Happy New Year!

Jen (USA) was able to arrange delivery of 65 dolls on January 11 to St. Joseph's Creche and St. Josep's Home in Pap, Haiti. She found a group of people heading out there who were willing to take the dolls (in space bags!) in their luggage. Brilliant!

Well done Jen I know the children will love them!

Easy Applique Face Boy and Girl Doll Sewing Patterns Are Finished!

For the last week and a half I have been tinkering around with yet another couple of patterns I had waiting to be finished… and I am pleased to say they are both done!

I had always planned on making a little boy, but after my news last week (Incase you missed it on my personal blog, we're having a baby boy!) it was a must! I think he looks rather fetching with his mustache! And as you can see from the top photo, he's a bit of a ladies man!

And my little girl, well she’s a cutie pie!

I made one with pigtails as an afterthought and I have to say I absolutely love her!

After the success of Jude and Lisa Paul from Renew Hope Haiti last Dolly Donations Drive and the adorable dolls that they collected (see photo above and here) they have set up a

Spring 2011 Dolly Donations drive for the children of Haiti.

“We are currently working with folks on the ground in Haiti to find where the greatest need is.”

They ask that the dolls be made with brown fabric and that they have a little prayer (or message depending on your faith etc) placed inside of them.

“When the child hugs the doll you made, they will also be hugging the prayer you sent.”

My toy kitchen review

I am thrilled to have been asked to do another review for CSN stores. It’s been such a pleasure to browse through there many items and online stores. I’m rather in need of a sprinkling of some modern furniture in the house but that will have to wait. What with baby number two on the way (I'm so excited!!) I really need to start focusing on the new nursery, or perhaps something a bit more practical! I can’t wait to see what I can find!

A big sorry for not getting my Kids Wooden Kitchen review out before Christmas but i got struck down with the dreaded flu!!!

Looking for a kid’s kitchen isn't easy. I wanted something sturdy that would last a long time (preferably through 2/3 kids plus their friends), not take up too much room and be gender neutral but still lovely and bright. Melissa and Doug Cook's Corner Wooden Kitchen fit the bill ... although it took my hubby and his father 2 hours to get it together Christmas Eve ..... I know it is going to last and last!

And the best thing of all, my daughter absolutely loved it ….. still loves it! And I can see her loving it for many more years to come!

A Year Later – Haiti Remember the Earth Quake

"Aid groups say only about 5 percent of the rubble from the quake has been removed and the capital is strewn with 20 million cubic yards (meters) of collapsed concrete and twisted steel debris, enough to fill dump trucks that would encircle half the globe. At least a million displaced people, including 380,000 children, are still in 1,200 tent-and-shack encampments that sprung up after the quake."

My heart is heavy as there is still so much to do out there and I feel helpless to help ...... but I am so grateful to all the wonderful and amazing people I have met on this journey. Thank you to everyone that has made and sent a doll to a child in need in Haiti.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people today.

Easy Boy Doll Pattern

Jude and Lisa Paul from Renew Hope Haiti have collected 120 dolls for their Dolly Donations Doll Drive they set up and all the dolls were sent over to Haiti for Christmas. Hooray!!

“(They) will be going to one of two places.(The) Spirit of Truth Ophanage in Ferrier Haiti - which currently has 35 girls there … and a remote area of Fonds Parisien Haiti near the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. … so remote, they currently have no electricity or water. They are currently not getting support from NGO's so this part of the doll drive is especially near and dear to our hearts.”

My New Easy Girl Doll Pattern

I have been trying to finish this doll pattern for months now and finally she is here, and just in time for Christmas! Hooray!!

Dolly Donations Supports The UTHANDO PROJECT

Although I am not currently hosting a Dolly Donations Drive I wanted to tell you about the need for hand made dolls for the Children of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

“KwaZulu Natal (KZN) is home to one quarter of South Africa’s children. ....2/3... live in poverty and 1.5 million are younger than six. The HIV and AIDS pandemic affects everyone ….. When one in five children has already lost one or both parents to the AIDS, the care-giving capacity of families is stretched and at times overwhelmed.

Through play children have the opportunity to experience delight and to unleash their imagination. They may also express their grief and loss, and come to better understand things that trouble or confuse them. One grandmother may have up to a dozen children in her care….”

“Play begins with the making of the dolls. Love is embedded in these handmade dolls, which carry with them the warm intention of the best possible outcomes for the child."

They have collected 20,000 but need Thousands more handmade “African style” dolls
Dolls must have a brown skin tone, be firm, well filled and cuddly, with colorful clothing.

Your Doll Drives: Brownie Troops Holiday Gift!

I just received a wonderful E-mail from Leigh in Alaska USA. Her Daughter's Brownie Troop is donating holiday gift boxes to the local drug and alcohol treatment center. It is a live in program with man & women bringing their children.

“(We were) asked for toys suitable for young kids and I immediately thought of your pattern.

I was able to get ten dollies finished for them to pack up. They were a big hit with our brownies, especially mine! I hope the kids at the center love them even half as much... ...Thank you so much for sharing this pattern that can bring so much joy to the life of a child!”

Your Doll Drives: Jenn's 250 dolls for Haiti and counting!

A soon to be adoptive mother to an orphaned Haitian boy, Jen has been hard at work over these past few months using the Free Dolly Donations Pattern to make dolls for her trip over to see her son. I was lucky enough to speak to her recently and her passion to help children in need was abundantly apparent.

To date she has donated 50 dolls to our Free The Kids doll drive and another 50 dolls to The Abundant Ground!

To keep herself busy whilst she waits for more news on her adoption from The House of God (creche au maison de deu) in Port Au Prince Jen spends her time raising her other children and you guessed it, making dolls.

“i am making dolls as steadily as i can. i found a group here that does mission trips all over the world. i have committed myself to providing dolls for anyone they are willing to take them to. they work with orphanages in Tibet, Cambodia, several areas in Africa, as well as Haiti.

They are planning a Haiti trip for feb. so i've earmarked around 150 dolls for that trip. i'm still working on getting more for them as well as starting some lighter skinned dolls for their current Tibet mission.”

Jenn has already made enough dolls for all 70 of the children in her son's orphanage, but if anyone would like to help her in her efforts and make some doll clothes, bags or shoes or anything else that can be used for the children to play dress up with them that would be fantastic!

A New Direction for Dolly Donations

After much debate I have decided to take a break from setting up large doll drives and focus on being a mummy. This past year has been a fantastic journey. I have been overwhelmed by all of you, your kindness, dedication and drive, and feel honored to have met you all. I am also terribly honored to read your e-mails of how I have inspired you to set up your own doll drives using my Free Dolly Donations Pattern.

I would like Dolly Donations to move in a new direction to help promote Your Dolly Donation Drives around the world.

So if you have set up a doll drive, be it big or small, for an orphanage, church group or organization supporting children in need, sent dolls to a homeless shelter, or battered women’s shelter, or perhaps given dolls to missionaries working overseas, please contact me.

I’d love to hear your stories, see photos of your finished dolls and whenever possible the happy children’s faces with their new dollies.

Dolly Donations would love to help spread the word for local sewing groups and drives around the world so that others in your area can join in the fun. And I would love to be able to share your stories with everyone in the Dolly Donations community!

How do I start my own Dolly Donations Drive?

First off, talk to your friends. You never know what connections are out there until you ask.
Contact your local church group or organization that might be supporting children in need abroad.
Know of an orphanage, why not contact them?
Are you or do you know somebody who is adopting a little one from overseas? Why not see if you can send some dollies along with them on their next trip?
Why not drop some dolls off at a homeless, or battered women’s shelter?
See if dolls would be a good gift to give to missionaries traveling overseas to distribute.
Are your relatives in the armed forces? Some of the smaller patterns are ideal to give to them to hand out to local children to build trust and friendship in areas devastated by war and hardship.
GAP Year Students, Traveling Doctors, Aid Workers, Missionaries …. If you know someone traveling overseas with a big heart and a bit of spare room in their luggage for a vacuumed pack group of dollies (they spring back to life once released from their plastic confines!), why not ask for their help?

The sky’s the limit! Go on give it a shot, you’ll be amazed how easy it is, how many wonderful people you meet along the way and remember for every doll made you’ll be making one child very happy!

The Abundant Ground will send our dolls to Haiti!

The wonderful people at The Abundant Ground are overjoyed to be able to take our extra dolls from our last drive for children in need in Haiti.

After the success of our first drive for their orphanage in Haiti, we have stayed in close contact. When I found out they are working with a number of medical clinics (there are very few hospitals still standing since the quake, see photo below) that are tending to children in need, I asked if they would like to provide those children with dolls to help comfort them through their tough times on the road to recovery. And of course Stephanie Victor, the Foundations director was elated!

The Abundant Ground will be working with The Associations of Haiti Physicians Abroad to distribute the dolls to victims and patients in Cap Haitien, Haiti.

So thank you to The Abundant Ground and The Associations of Haiti Physicians Abroad from all of us at Dolly Donations! We can’t wait to hear how the children are doing and hopefully they will receive their very own dolls before Christmas if customs allow it!

I am so proud of everyone who has taken part in this fantastic drive!

Dee Orlowski the West Regional Director of Free the Kids told me the other day that 100’s of beautiful dolls have arrived and wanted to thank everyone so much!

She has promised photos of the children with the dolls and a list of all those who have taken part which I will post up as soon as I receive them!
